1996 age group

vs AS Romái
lost 1-4
Sam
A disaster almost from start to finish, with the team looking about as disjointed as they've ever been. A refereeing error caused the first as Till was clearly pushed in the back from a long throw and Glenn could do nothing to stop the subsequent header. However, the next two goals in two minutes showed the boys' minds, or bodies, or both, were some place other than a football pitch. First the defence left two men goalside and Glenn's brave dive couldn't prevent a very clever finish from rolling over the line. The next was a comedy of errors culminating in Fabrizio colliding with Christian who set the ball perfectly into the striker's path to shoot past Glenn. Till dragged a shot wide and Patrick should have done better when through on goal but hit the keeper from close range. Glenn then joined in on the "fun" by slicing his kick from a back pass, allowing the attacker to toe poke the ball past him into the unguarded net. Till rattled the post before setting up Sam for a consolation goal, slipping the ball behind the defender for the left footer to finish in the near corner.
vs Hidegkúti SC
lost 0-6
There was nothing to take from this game apart from the fact the boys couldn't possibly get any worse!!! Three players went to the ball on the right, allowing a free man at the back post to tap home for the opener. Till provided brief respite with two shots saved by the keeper but from then on it was one-way traffic. A long ball from the keeper over the top left Christian stranded for the second as the striker raced through to finish. Patrick was then robbed in possession and despite a good first save from Glenn the rebound was tucked away. The 4th said everything about the day as the whites were first to react to a shot off the post, hitting the rebound off the underside of the crossbar. The ball may have crossed the line but with no whistle it was play on and while all of our players stopped the forward simply accepted the present and tapped into the empty net!!! Christian and Patrick looked like statues as a quick one-two left them out of position for the 5th goal as the striker found the corner and there was no defence in sight for the 6th as Glenn was left with a two v one which was comfortably finished. The final whistle came as a relief as the game could have ended up in double figures...
vs Diófa-Tát SE
won 2-1
Sam, Matthew
A victory, allbeit a subdued one. The boys looked traumatised by the previous games and despite dominating, couldn't apply the finish to most of the opportunities that came their way. Matthew tested the keeper first before Fabrizio headed over. George then smashed a great free-kick off the inside of the post. Some lovely football carved out the opener as Patrick played the ball to Sam who fed Till in the middle. His return pass just reached Sam who managed to squeeze the ball home at the near post for his second of the day. Till then had a go with a mazy dribble and shot which was saved before Sam, Fabrizio and Matthew all went close. Some poor defending from a corner allowed Tat to equalise with a free man at the back post while the defenders ball watched. Luckily we managed to find a winner as some quick thinking from George at a free-kick set Matthew through and he slid the ball home. The drama wasn't quite over as Glenn managed a fantastic match-winning save with his right foot having dived the wrong way! Overall a poor afternoon, leaving us 5th in the table and a vast improvement is needed on the final two matchdays to finish in third place.

1998 age group

vs Diófa-Tát SE
won 3-1
Chris (2), Botond
The 98s got the day off to good start with a performance showing how they've improved as a team each matchday. Emily signalled our intent with two early efforts that went wide and then over the bar before Chris opened the scoring. Botond won the ball and passed to his left where Chris dummied his man beautifully by letting the ball run across his body and drilled home a low shot to the far corner. Chris almost got a second before the break but couldn't find the target under pressure after a good run. Marci made a great save from a deflected effort at the beginning of the second half but was not so fortunate moments later as another fantastic stop was followed up by the striker whose shot deflected off Ralph and Alex before finding the net. Ralph's long throws were always dangerous and Marcell got a good header on one, forcing the keeper to parry and Botond was there to volley home and regain the lead. Emily then chased back from a corner to make a vital challenge to keep us in front and then played a great one-two with Marcell but his shot was saved. Chris then popped up with the clinching goal, collecting Alex's pass and shooting under pressure with just enough power to get through the keeper's hands and in. A very good performance and already guaranteed a semi-final spot before the second game.
vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
lost 1-3
Chris
The first half of this game was as open as you get, with chances for both sides every time they attacked. We were let off in the second minute as a shot came back off the post and Victor saved the follow-up brilliantly. At the other end Chris continued where he had left off, latching onto Marcell's header and burying his right foot volley past the keeper. The reds almost equalised but Victor again came to the rescue. Eventually we ran out of luck as Emily put through her own net stretching to intercept at the back post. Botond then allowed his man goalside from a throw-in to finish past Victor and put us 2-1 down and almost immediately it was three as some sloppy marking left Victor with no chance as a free man rounded off a good Vorosvar move. After the break it was all Buda Juniors with Chris, Emily and Marcell all shooting wide. Ralph popped up with two efforts from long range but never really threatened while Marci was a mere spectator at the other end.  A good second half showing but not enough to claw back the two goals, leaving a tough semi against Dorog to come.
Semi-final vs Dorogi SC A
lost 0-2
Again a case of dominating the game without taking our chances... The first half was very good, controlling possession and pressuring Dorog high up the pitch. Victor barely touched the ball but the only real chance fell to Chris, whose shot was well saved. The second half started disastrously as some missed tackles in midfield allowed the ball to run through to the Dorog striker who clipped the ball past the advancing Marci into the corner. A minute later the same player finished almost identically as Alex couldn't quite cover a pass in behind Ralph. For both goals the midfield had gone missing, perhaps forgetting their defensive duties after such a dominant first half. Some great passing between Ralph and Chris set up Botond but his first-time effort was saved. Chris then rattled the post from a corner but that was as close as we came. Not a bad performance but two costly mistakes left too much to do.
3rd and 4th Play-off vs Lábatlan ESE
lost 0-1
Against the table toppers we were always going to be the underdogs but once again we put in a solid showing despite not getting the desired result. Emily headed the first chance just over while Victor pulled off a great one-on-one save. It was a tight game and again a silly mistake broke the deadlock. Ralph got too close to his man and when the ball was chipped over his head it was a straight run through for the striker to finish past Victor. After the break we gave it our all again and came close to levelling as Marcell found Emily whose shot was bloked and Alex prodded the loose ball just wide. Chris then set up Emily but a last ditch block saved a certain goal. Labatlan's keeper then kept Chris out with the last chance from Marcell's through ball, so the day finished disappointingly after such a bright start. Overall there was another improvement from previous days and there's still maybe a chance to sneak up a place or two on the last matchday in March.

2001 Group 2

Group matches

vs Szent Pál AFC
won 2-0
Bence, Paolo
We started well as right in the beginning we started pushing Szent Pál AFC and for most of the first half we controlled the match. There were not many chances, but it looked like BJ were the more dangerous team and not far away from grabbing a goal.  Our defence was strong, so Szent Pál could not come close enough to our goal and the first half ended goalless.

In the second half Szent Pál started better, but missed the goal twice in a row. We needed an answer just to settle ourselves down and we didn't have to wait long. Matthew passed to Bence from about 5 metres away from the goal and Bence scored into the top left corner. From there on Buda Juniors took control of the game again and were more dangerous. 3 minutes from the final whistle Helmer saw the opportunity and gave a very clever pass to Paolo from the halfway line, and Paolo copied our first goal and so we ended up winning our first group game.

vs Piliscsaba
drew 0-0
As we were already through to the semis, we made some changes to our team. Bence, for example, played at the back and Helmer was moved up front from defence. Like this our players had a bit of a taste of other positions. We started with two great opportunities, but missed the goal both times. Piliscsaba were playing strong, but our team could handle all their efforts.

Play-off matches

Semi-final vs II.ker UFC
lost 1-3
Bence
We started the match better and created chances. Of course we had to be alert at the back very much, as II.ker UFC plays great football and has dangerous players when it comes to playing in front of the other team's goal. Even so, we had the first big chance, but Bence could not beat the keeper one on one. Unfortunately II.ker UFC got the first goal right after the missed chance. II.ker kept pushing form there on and not long after the first one they scored again (with a little help from our defence). Buda Juniors tried their best to come back into the game and 4 minutes before the end Bence scored. Unfortunately today's form of BJ wasn't as good as the previous two matchdays and we could not equalise. In fact, another mistake and II.ker UFC won 3-1. This meant we played for 3rd place.
3rd/4th Play-off vs Piliscsaba
lost 0-1
We met Piliscsaba for the second time in the day and all of us hoped that we could grab 3rd place… and it started that way as Paolo found himself alone in front of the goal twice right after each other. Unfortunately he missed both of the opportunities and so we ended the first half 0-0 instead of with a 2-0 lead. The second half saw another BJ chance, but we missed and then (as happens many times in football and had already happened to us on this day) Piliscsaba scored 2 minutes before the end. We had no more chances to score and had to walk away with the 1-0 defeat. Today's teamplay wasn't as good as we had experienced before, but still we have 3 more matchdays to show ourselves.

Sunday 13th December 2009

1997 age group

vs Esztergom SC
won 3-2
Till (2), Matthew
After the disappointment of Matchday 1, the reigning champions were hoping to take maximum points to put them back in contention. Despite having control from the off we were very sloppy in defence and went two goals down before waking up. The first came as Till lost the ball in the middle and George couldn't get close enough to block the shot which flew into the near top corner. The second was worse as Christian left his post covering George at the back too soon and both players were caught out by a long ball over the top and the striker finished past Victor. Till replied with his first of the campaign, latching on to Christian's pass and finishing left-footed to the corner and he found the equaliser on 10 minutes after George's long throw had set him free to bury a right-footed volley past the keeper. It took until two minutes to score the vital third as Matthew scrambled home from close range after Till had somehow contrived to hit the keeper three times with the ball. A poor start in terms of performance but the boys eventually found some spirit and the 3 points was all that counted.
vs MAC-Népstadion SE Kék
won 8-2
Matthew (3), Christian (2), Till, Simon, Joao
A good result with some excellent football but despite scoring 8, the chances missed proved again how poor our finishing has been and how important the habit of scoring goals is when facing tougher opposition. Matthew got the ball rolling with a first-time finish from Till's pass and buried the second a minute later after winning the ball from the last defender. Some great football encompassed the 97's play so far this year as George played a one-two with Simon to escape from our own corner and then played a quick switch to Matthew on the left. He immediately looked right to Till and met Till's return pass but the finish flew wide! Great to watch but lacking the vital ingredient...a GOAL!!! Till hit the post moments later but Matthew collected the rebound and set him up to finish from close range. Next Matthew's cross shot was deflected into the corner by an unfortunate defender. Joao then got in on the act with a ferocious half-volley from distance that cannoned back off the angle of post and crossbar. He did find the net moments later, however, arriving at the back post to finish George's sublime dribble and pass. Christian became the next player on the scoresheet, winning possession and stroking the ball confidently into the far corner. He then scored his second in bizarre circumstances, somehow steering the ball into the net while laying on the ground after being tackled by the last defender and with the keeper coming out to collect the loose ball! We failed to keep a clean sheet, however, as Victor was left exposed from a long ball which was finished to the roof of the net. Joao set up Simon for the 8th before MAC hit back with a free-kick, leaving the final score 8:2.
vs MAC-Népstadion SE Sárga
lost 2-3
Till, Simon
Again a story of missed chances punished in the last second of the match. Christian, Till and Matthew all missed easy chances early on before some shocking marking from a free-kick left a yellow shirt with all the time in the world to control and finish past Victor. George set up Christian down the right and he somehow dug out a cross from the corner and Till arrived at the back post to finish left-footed for the equaliser. Till and Christian then hit the keeper when it seemed easier to score before Simon latched on to a rebound from Till's effort to score with his first touch! Next Matthew couldn't find the target as his heavy touch drew the keeper out at his feet with Alex wide open to his right. A quick turn and shot by the MAC striker crept into the corner to level the scores again, then George hit the keeper from close in after playing a great one two with Till. With the last kick of the game Joao stretched to intercept a cross from the left but only succeeded in diverting the ball past Victor into the corner for an O.G and a very unlucky defeat! Unlucky yes, but maybe not undeserved. If you don't take your chances during the game they will come back to haunt you. 6 points out of 9 on the day and still not out of the race by any means... let's hope for a change in fortune in the new year!!!

Saturday 12th December 2009

1996 age group

vs Piliscsaba
won 6-2
Till, Patrik, Christine Newberg, George, own goal, Matthew
What a fine way to start the day as Patrik got a pass from George which he controlled and gave Till a perfect pass, and Till didn't waste time in converting that home for our first goal of the day. A few minutes later, Patrik scored the second one - it was a great shot, like a ballistic missile. Christine Newberg got the third goal, her first one in the tournament, but before then she almost scored from Patrick's pass. George and Matthew were also on song as they scored brilliant goals. Great team effort saw Christian, George and Patrik covering a lot of ground in both defence and attack. Balu coming in for Glenn was a good decision, as it gave Glenn time to rest. Balu did fine, he was so calm in goal, made some fine saves and some blunders. In all, he needs to be exposed to such matches. Sam was brilliant in passes and helping in defense, only making a few mistakes - he needs to train more often. Glenn was so great, made a lot of saves. Glenn's excellent goalkeeping was the finishing touch in a game where the real difference was teamwork and playing in position.
vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
lost 3-4
Matthew, Till (2)
We played well but ill luck robbed us of the match. Beautiful professionalism displayed from Matthew gave us the 1st goal. He was always up front and coming back to help the defence. Till got the second and third goals for us as he was on song again in this match. We were leading in the first half and Buda Juniors' defense was guarded fine until Patrik made a defensive blunder which Pilisvörösvár L. SE didn't waste time in converting to a goal. We started the match beautifully but the end result was 3-4 as we were too careful to secure another win in order to go home with the maximum six points of the day. We were so good in teamwork, hope we'll keep it up.

1998 age group

vs Diófa-Tát SE
lost 2-4
Marcell (2)
Despite having a depleted squad with only one substitute (a goalkeeper!!!), we made a solid start sitting back and playing on the counter attack. The good work was undone by conceding a sloppy goal, leaving the Tat striker in between Ralph and Botond from a throw-in to head past Victor for the opening goal. The leveller came almost immediately as Botond played the ball towards Chris whose attempt was deflected up in the air and Marcell calmly watched the looping ball all the way to his right foot and smashed a great volley into the roof of the net! Ralph then found Chris on the left and his strong run and cross shot found Marcell at the back post to scramble home. Straight after half-time Tat equalised as Ralph's goal-kick landed at the striker's feet whose shot squirmed through Marci's hands into the net. The next 5 minutes was all Blues pressure but two quick goals in the 7th and 8th minutes put the game out of reach. Both goals were very poor defending as first we allowed Tat an easy dribble past three challenges and, despite Marci making a stunning save, a second Tat player was on hand to finish. As our players tired even Victor was forced to play as a defender and was caught a little out of position for the final goal which Marci could do little about.
vs Lábatlan ESE
lost 0-2
This game was lost in the first half as two terrible bits of defending led to both goals. First a goal-kick up the middle was allowed to bounce between our two defenders and Victor had no chance with the finish. We nearly made it to half-time with the score at one-nil but after defending 3 corners well Ralph switched off for a split second, allowing the striker to nip in front of him to finish between Botond and the post. After half-time we responded really well with Marci barely having a touch in goal. With all the pressure we failed to find a goal despite the best efforts of Chris, whose fighting, dribbling and shooting deserved better in the final five minutes.
5th and 6th Play-off vs Dorogi SC B
won 3-0
Chris (3)
A very good performance to finish the day with Chris getting his much deserved goal and all the players contributing fantastically in terms of effort. Chris gave an early indication of what was to come as he clipped the post with his first effort and had a second saved by the keeper. It was a case of third time lucky as he received Ralph's pass and found the near corner from a tight angle. Ralph then sent a free-kick just over. Chris doubled the lead with a carbon copy of his first, finding the near corner with his left foot after beating his man well. After the break we continued to push forward despite our tired legs. Emily had a good effort deflected wide before Ralph had a long-range effort just miss. Some great play from Botond to Chris to Marcell, who backheeled to Emily, almost brought a terrific goal but her shot went just wide. Marcell should have done better when put clean through but hit the keeper and from the resulting corner Ralph's effort was deflected wide again. Emily had a fantastic dribble and shot saved before Chris grabbed his left-foot hat-trick, firing the ball into the top corner after winning possession. There was almost a fourth as Marcell headed against the post and Marci had his effort saved by the keeper. A good end to the day and 6 points so far. Hopefully next time we can get a result in the first two matches to reach the semi-final and add to our tally.

Sunday 6th December 2009

1996 age group

vs AS Romái
lost 0-1
AS Római has a good team, so we didn't expect anything but a very hard 20 minutes for the start of our 1996s campaign. The Buda Juniors players played the whole match with discipline and only one mistake in defence, when AS Romai scored. Alex and George missed two open chances and so the half-time result didn't change. In the second half BJ was the better team on the field, but even Matthew's open chance (again) wasn't enough to provide at least an equaliser. We lost a match we could easily have won.
vs Hidegkúti SC
won 5-1
Till (3), Patrik, Matthew
This match started excellently for us, as Till scored within five seconds of the kick-off. Not long afterwards Till scored his and our second goal. Matthew passed to George who gave Till the final pass which found him face to face with the keeper, and he made no mistake, dribbling round the keeper and placing the ball in the net. And it was still not over for Till. After Matthew's slide tackle and pass Till's third meant a hat-trick for him. Glenn's saves just before half-time kept us 3-0 up. In the second half Hidegkút tried to push for a goal, but our defence held on. A small mistake, however, and the score changed to 3-1. After the goal Hidegkút pushed even harder but Glenn saved all their attempts. Alex recovered the ball beautifully and put it through to Patrik, who placed our 4th goal. We thought that Hidegkút would stop coming, but they kept on testing our defence. Glenn again showed that he was in good form by saving a penalty. Most of the second half went on in our half, but we still managed to score very close to the end. Matthew got the ball and after a solo run he scored, making the final score 5-1
vs Diófa-Tát SE
drew 1-1
Till
We started the match well, but Till could not score after a brilliant pass from Matthew - an easy chance again, the 5th of the day. And as always happens after such things, Tát scored after a defensive mistake. We were the better team on the field, and finally Till managed to score after George's assist. With still 4 minutes remaining, we went for the winning goal, but Sam's shot was denied and George just didn't recognise that passing the ball to Patrik would find him alone in front of the empty goal. So we had to walk away with just a draw.

Sunday 29th November 2009

1997 age group

vs Solymár
lost 0-4
The 97s got off to a very poor start in this year's Winter Cup, having being crowned champions in the previous two years. We had a lucky escape in the opening minute as some slack marking allowed a free shot at Victor's goal which came back off the underside of the bar. Then it was all pressure. Hingl was set free but dragged his shot wide. Some slick passing from George to Matthew set Hingl up again but he scooped the ball over from close range. A mistake in midfield lead to the opener as there was nobody back to protect Victor and the striker finished well to the bottom corner. Matthew then hit the keeper when he should have done better and Hingl forced him into a great save with the ball agonisingly brushing the post before stopping on the line and then being hacked clear! After all our chances the last three minutes were awful as we conceded twice more due to more terrible marking, handing us a heavy defeat with much to ponder on before the next game. Probably the worst performance by the 97s in the Winter Cup ever with missed chances, little passing, silly mistakes and a huge lack of spirit and fight.
vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
lost 0-5
Despite again starting the game on top we were punished for not taking our chances and for some awful defensive errors. Christian and George shot wide before the first real chance fell to Matthew, who forced a good save from the keeper with his right foot. Victor was once again left exposed 5 minutes in as a loose ball was picked up in the middle and the striker dribbled through some non-existent tackles to finish. Anton had a header saved while George shot over from Christian's free kick and Simon's effort was blocked down. In the 10th minute we were two down as our corner was deflected clear and with no one staying back the attacker had a free 30-metre run at goal before placing the ball past a bewildered Victor. The boys had no response, with Christian losing possession for the 3rd goal and Hingl doing the same for the 4th. Our misery was compounded in the last seconds as Christian and Joao's missed tackles led to a fifth goal and an absolute hammering was complete.
vs Pilisszentiván SE
won 5-3
Christian, own goal, Anton (2), George
Finally a victory with some goals scored, despite another shaky display at the back. Christian opened the scoring with a cracking shot from the right which went in off the far post. Matthew should have made it two but hit the keeper from close range but luck was seemingly with us as from the resulting corner the ball deflected off a defender's shins and found the net. A shocking mistake from Christian gifted a goal back as he passed the ball across his own goal to the waiting striker who tapped in. Matthew switched the play from left to right and Christian this time picked the right pass to Anton who finished at the second attempt to make the score 3-1. Christian was involved in everything (good and bad) and was caught way out of position as Victor was lobbed for the 5th goal of the game while at the other end Matthew rattled the post and forced the keeper into a smart save after two excellent dribbles. George extended the lead as he turned inside after his initial free-kick had struck the wall and hit a low left-foot drive past the keeper. George then set up Anton after beating two men and he controlled calmly before picking his spot to secure victory. There was still time to concede one more, however, as Victor was slow off his line from Joao's header and the striker lifted the ball into the empty net, leaving the final score 5-3.

2000 age group

vs Piliscsaba
lost 2-3
Bence (2)
With 3 new additions to the squad from the last matchday our team started nervously, with Ryo, Max and Alfie looking a little lost at the back. Leo was unlucky to concede the first goal after spilling a shot for the rebound to be put away. Matteo had a great dribble and shot saved while Bence sent a free-kick just over. Alfie then won possession and sent Bence clear but he could only shoot straight at the goalie. After half-time we continued to push forward as Matteo was sent clear but the keeper came out at his feet to save. Bence grabbed the equaliser as he controlled a long throw and finished to the top right-hand corner. Matteo and Bence undid all their great work moments later as they both walked back watching while the defence was outnumbered and Leo was beaten at his near post. Max then made two great blocks and Bence raced onto the loose ball down the left before cutting in and placing the ball perfectly into the far corner to level the scores again. Unfortunately the boys couldn't hold on, as a corner was only half cleared and Leo could do nothing as a shot from outside the box flew into the roof of the net to leave the final score 2-3.
vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
lost 0-7
Two games in a row is always difficult, especially against strong opposition for 30 minutes. Bence and Matteo were again caught sleeping, watching on as Pillisvorosvar broke straight from the kick-off and the ball squirmed past Leo into the net. It was like starting the match with a one-goal deficit, but the boys responded brilliantly, putting on a great defensive display with Max, Kentaro and Alfie leading the way. Christian and Janos worked tirelessly in midfield and the score remained 0-1 at half-time. After the break the game could have gone either way, with Matteo and Christian playing excellently in midfield and Bence always dangerous up front. Luck was not on our side, however, as Leo made a great save coming out of his goal only for the ball to rebound off the striker and roll agonisingly over the line despite Ryo and Max's best efforts. After this the floodgates opened as the boys tired and the rested Pillisvorosvar team put us to the sword adding a further 5 goals without reply. The boys showed fantastic fight right through the team but ultimately a lack of experience and teamplay told again, despite some excellent individual peformances.

2001 Group 2

Group matches

vs Nyergesújfalu
won 5-1
Bence (5)
After winning the tournament the previous week we were looking for another great day. And it started very well. Soon after kick-off Bence scored. We didn't play well but another goal from Bence gave us a 2-0 lead. Nyergesújfalu managed to break, but missed an open chance. Our defence was not 100% awake as another strike came but Lewis Whelan saved us. Right after the goal-kick Bence found himself alone in front of goal and he didn't miss. From Lewis Shaw's great corner Bence volleyed the ball into the net for the fourth. Just before half-time Nyergesújfalu got one back. The second half didn't go so well for us, as Nyerges kept pressing. Lewis Whelan denied shot after shot. Our team was focusing on defence, but in the last minute we still managed to score - Bence got all 5 goals!
vs Szent Pál AFC
drew 2-2
Bence (2)

This looked like a difficult one as Szent Pál had prepared very well. They moved the ball around fast and kept us in front of our own goal. After a defensive mistake they scored. We tried to push and came back into the game, but Lewis missed a one-on-one with the goalie and so did Bence. After Jacob's throw in one of Szent Pál's defenders touched the ball with his hand and the referee gave us a penalty. After a quick discussion Bence placed the ball on the spot and equalised. Soon after half-time Bence scored again, but to be honest it came from nowhere. We were still not very organised at the back, and Szent Pál used this to their advantage. One of their many throw-ins found a player all alone 2 metres from our goal and so we ended up with a draw. But through to the semi-final.

Play-off matches

Semi-final vs Piliscsaba
won 1-0
Bence

One match away from the final again. The match started the same as the whole day looked like. Not playing very well, missing open chances, etc. Bence missed two open chances, Lewis Shaw's pass just too weak so it could not reach Guy in a good position in front of the goal. The pace of the match was probably the best so far and even though we did not play well we could keep up. After half-time, Piliscsaba did not give us a chance to move forward. They kept pushing and pushing, creating many chances. With a little bit of luck and hard work we kept the ball out of our goal and 3 minutes before the end Bence scored. It was a very difficult 3 minutes, but the score didn't change so we found ourselves in the final.

Final vs Szent Pál AFC
won 2-1
Bence, Matthew

We started the match very well as after Lewis Shaw's corner Bence scored a goal. Szent PÁl of course tried to fight back and from a long shot they equalised. We were slightly better, but could sense that a little mistake and Szent Pál could score. Szent Pál knocked the ball around much better in the last 4 minutes of the first half, but we stood our ground very well. In the second half we started controlling the match and two shots showed that we were going for the goal seriously. A pass from Lewis Shaw found Matthew in a great position and he did not miss. Szent Pál changed gear and started pushing for the equaliser, but Lewis Whelan didn't let that happen. Just 2 minutes before the end everybody shouted GOAL, but an unbelievable dive from Lewis helped him push the ball on the post. The last chance of the game was ours, but Bence missed a one-on-one situation with the goalie. Everybody was happy after the final whistle, which didn't just mean that had we won the second match day, but most likely we had qualified for the title play-off already!

For our first match we lined up against one of the best teams with very good teamplay. Looking at our players, especially as we had some new boys in the team, it was plain to see that they had too much respect for the other team. Even so, the game started up with a chance for us, but it was missed by Bence. Unfortunately II.ker weren't nervous when they needed to be calm and they found their way to Lewis' goal a little too easily. Not long afterwards another mistake at the back led to us going in at half-time 2-0 down. Starting the second half the boys calmed down a little and started to show some of their potential. Bence frightened the goalie at the other side and so did Lewis Shaw. However, going forward a little too much left Helmer on his own at the back and against two opponents he could not stop the third goal.
vs Piliscsaba
won 3-0
Bence (3)

We needed to win to qualify from the group for the semi-finals. Piliscsaba drew against II.ker, so the match didn't look like a "walk-over”, but all of our players gave their best and tried their hardest to defend and also go for scoring. Lewis Shaw missed an open chance, at the other end Lewis Whelan saved a shot. Bence got close, but one dribble too many and the chance was lost. 3 minutes before the end of the 1st half, Bence scored from a free-kick to put us one up. We started the second half where we left off. Piliscsaba just couldn't find the way to stop Vencel, Guy and Bence who scored our/his 2nd and 3rd goals - a fantastic hat-trick. We also have to say that our back 3 – Lewis Whelan in goal, Helmer and Jacob - were as solid as a rock. We ended up second in the group, so off to the semi-final which happened just after our second group match so no time for any rest…

Play-off matches

Semi-final vs Nyergesújfalu
won 3-0
Bence, Lewis, Matthew

Nyergesújfalu ended up first in their group so it was up to us to stop them! All of our boys worked hard to do so. Bence got close to scoring, but a brilliant save from Nyerges's goalie denied him. But he just would not give up… A stunning free-kick from Bence gave us the lead. Lewis thought he wanted to follow Bence and scored a great goal not far from the halfway line. 2-0 and many happy faces at half-time.

In the second half we kept pushing, but sometimes just a little bit too much. Everybody thinking about going forward nearly cost us a goal. Nyergesújfalu just missed an open goal. Fortunately no balls made it into our net, but one did make it into Nyerges's, Matthew finding a way to make the final score 3-0 to us.

Final vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
drew 1-1 (won 3-2 pens)
Bence

Pilisvörösvár proved it last year and also during the day that they are a great team. They started the final like that, but our players made it obvious that they are a strong team as well. After a nervous start Buda Juniors took over the match and started to press on Vörösvár. After a few missed chances from us, Pilisvörösvár scored after a throw-in found their player all alone two metres from Lewis Whelan's goal. Not a happy way to go into half-time, but none of our footballers needed cheering up as all of them were up for the second half, knowing that this match could be turned around.

Chance after chance… Lewis Shaw's corner found Bence in front of the goal but he missed. We were running out of time but 3 seconds before the end the hard work paid off. Bence got a ball and turned towards the goal, leaving the defender behind - gooooooooal! 1-1 meant we had to go to penalties.

Penalties: Pilisvörösvár started and Lewis Whelan pushed it onto the post. Matthew's calm, very well-placed penalty meant 1-0 to BJ. PIlisvörösvár scored their second. Lewis Shaw stood behind the ball and placed it under the cross bar. 2-1. Pilisvörösvár scored their 3rd so 2-2 before our last penalty. Bence had to make the decision and he didn't miss, copying Lewis Shaw's penalty to make it 3-2 and give us the well-deserved victory.

Great football, great performances from all of our young players made us adults very, very happy and proud!

1998 age group

vs Dorogi SC A
lost 1-3
Chris
Up against last year's Winter Cup winners we got off to a strong start with good battling in midfield and almost opened the scoring as Akiyuki went past his man on the left before freeing Marcell who tried to take on the last man when he should have shot with his left foot. Individual mistakes ended up costing us dear as Ralph committed himself to intercepting a pass but missed his header and the Dorog striker took a touch before hiiting a long-range volley which Victor could only palm into the roof of the net. Seconds later it was two as Botond was caught out of position and Victor left with no chance from the first-time finish. Akiyuki had a good effort saved after Marcell's pass before Chris hit a great left-foot shot on the run which the keeper did well to hold. Just before half-time Ralph lost possesion on the halfway line and once again we were punished as the striker made no mistake finishing off at the far post.

The second half was all blues pressure with Emily leading the fight with a strong run, winning a free-kick on the right. Ralph faked to shoot, setting up Marcell but his shot was saved. More pressure from Thomas' corner ended with Chris rattling the post with a cracking left-foot volley. Chris did get his deserved goal after great pressing in midfield with Marcell and Ralph. Chris shook off the last man well and slotted past the keeper. It was too little too late but an excellent second-half performance was something positive in the team's display despite the individual errors ultimately proving costly.
vs Pilisvörösvár L. SE
lost 0-2
The second game proved to be much tighter than the first, with a goal in either half deciding the points. Chris, Marcell and Ralph all had half chances to open the scoring with Victor an observer for most of the first half. His first real task was to pick the ball out of the net as Marcell left his man free from a corner to tap in from close range. Emily almost equalised with a strong run and shot which was turned round the post for a corner. Within a minute of the second half starting we were two down as Akiyuki missed a tackle and Marci didn't stand a chance with the shot flying into the roof of the net. Ralph's long throw almost brought an equaliser, but the keeper palmed Marcell's looping header from under the crossbar. Emily was again proving our most inflential player, strong in defence and dangerous going forward but shot just wide with her only real effort of the second half, leaving the final score 2-0 and only leaving 5th place up for grabs.
5th-6th play-off vs Dorogi SC B
won 5-2
Marcell (2), Emily (2), Botond
Despite dominating the early stages we somehow found ourselves two down as the team struggled to come to terms with a new formation, leaving Ralph exposed at the back. Ralph stepped forward to take a throw-in but nobody covered and as the ball broke free the striker had a straight run to goal and finished into the corner. The second moments later was almost the same but this time the pacy forward raced past Ralph on the left and finished in the near top corner as Victor went to ground too quickly. A bit of luck got us back in the game with Marcell's looping volley somehow finding the top corner and soon after it was all square as Emily lifted the ball over the top for Marcell to race on and finish past a hesitant goalkeeper. After the break the game was all about Emily as she first set up Botond who hit the post from close range before the rebound was cleared from the line. Next she went for goal herself after forcing her way through two tackles and found the net for a goal she richly deserved. Botond put us 4-2 up, turning inside cleverly from Thomas' pass and finished to the keeper's left. Chris and Botond then had further chances from great battling in the middle by Akiyuki while Marci comfortably kept out the only shot he had to deal with. Emily put the gloss on a fine performance as she danced round the last defender on the right and smashed a shot in off the far post. 5-2 the game finished with a well-earned victory and a good experience for the four players who were at the Winter Cup for the first time.

2000 age group

vs Hegyvidék SE
lost 2-5
Bence (2)
With 6 players who had never experienced the Winter Cup before, our 2000 boys struggled to cope with the speed at which a very good Hegyvidek side flew out of the traps. All the goals in the first ten minutes were from the basic error of not being goalside of the attacker and goalkeeper for the day Leo had no chance against a constant wave of attacks which left us four down before we even woke up. We improved somewhat as Bence popped up with a strong finish to pull one back. Leo did his best keeping the attacks at bay, but conceded one more before Bence rattled in his second to leave the final score 5:2 and the boys with much to improve before the next match...
vs Esztergom SC
lost 1-4
Bence
Despite a better start in our second match Leo had to produce some heroics to keep the scores level in the first 5 minutes. He could do nothing to prevent the opener which flew in off the far post. Shaw and Bence came close to an equaliser with cracking shots that went just wide. Two quick goals in the 8th and 9th minutes killed the game off, with Leo having no chance as the first was deflected past him from close range and the second fired into the top corner. Whelan tried an audacious bicycle kick which almost pulled a goal back but in the 12th minute we conceded again with a long ball over the top catching our defense cold and Leo again left with no chance. So once again 4 down, but this time the boys responded very well, Ryo and Ryoga shoring things up at the back and Bence scoring his third of the day after great battling by Matteo. Whelan then set Bence free with a chip over the top but the volley went just wide. Christian then put Bence clear down the right but the keeper smothered well with Whelan free in the middle. The last 7 minutes were a huge improvement both in defence and attack and showed that the boys can compete if they put their minds to the task!!!
vs II.ker UFC
lost 1-3
Bence
Against probably the strongest team in the competion the boys put in their best performance with great attitude right throughout the team. Ryo and Ryoga continued where they left off, defending solidly, while Matteo put in a man-of-the-match performance working tirelessly in midfield. Bence opened the scoring with his 4th of the day, latching onto Whelan's flick from Leo's kick out and dribbling to his right before blasting the ball home from 12 metres. We defended well but were unfortunate to concede the equaliser as a loose ball was helped back into the danger area and the ball squirmed home despite Leo's best efforts on the line. A tidy goal followed as the striker turned inside from the left past Janos and fired home in the near corner. It was 3-1 moments later with a fantastic goal as the ball went from right to left and the first time cross over Ryo and Whelan was volleyed home superbly past Leo. We continued to push hard and Bence's free-kick was volleyed just wide by Whelan and Shaw had a left-foot effort blocked well by the defence. Leo saved a one-on-one at the other end to keep us in with a chance but time ran out and the final score remained 3-1. Another defeat but a much improved performance with everyone showing the right heart and battling skills especially midfield dynamo Matteo and our outstanding goalkeeper Leo!!!
