From the offset it was clear to see that nerves would
play some role in the outcome of this match, as most
of the players had never played a match outside Buda
Juniors training. However, with the experienced Bernado
working the midfield and Benny taking care of business
in the defensive end of things, the team was able
to put together some good passing. Most of the chances
for the B team came through Soma's hard work up front,
although he was unable to score against a strong Szent
Pál keeper.
Half-way
through the first half Christian tracked the Szent
Pál forward as he approached the Buda Juniors
goal, but with his last lunge at the striker Christian
brought him down just outside the penalty area. The
Szent Pál player stepped up and drove the ball
past the wall and past the diving Glen to make the
score 1-0. As the first half moved on we could see
the Buda Juniors players becoming more comfortable
as they began to move the ball with more confidence.
Both Jessica and Kostya, playing in the defence, made
some outstanding tackles, preventing the opposition
from scoring. So at half-time the score was Szent
Pál 1-0 Buda Juniors.
With
the beginning of the second half Marcell was introduced
to the midfield along with Benny, and Bernado was
asked to take up a defensive role. In an effort to
find the equaliser Christian was moved up front where
he ran down every ball, but like Soma in the first
half he was unable to find the back of the net.
As
the second half moved on it was Alex H's turn to show
his skills down the left side of the field as he turned
the Szent Pál defenders inside-out with some
dazzling moves and good passing. With time running
out the Buda Juniors B team pushed up field in hopes
of finding an equalizer, but the tactic backfired
as the Szent Pál forwards broke downfield and
converted a second goal to make the score 2-0. The
final whistle was soon blown, bringing an end to a
fine display of football by both teams.

What took place in this match was unbelievable and
a delight for all that watched. From the first kick
of the ball it was all about scoring for the B team.
Within the first 3 minutes of the match Bernado
hooked up with Gergo, putting him through on goal
with a pass over the top of the defence. Gergo stayed
calm and put the ball past a shocked keeper. Shortly
after the restart, through some great work by Kostya
on the right side of defence, Bernado got the ball
and took a long shot that found it's way into the
net for 2-0.
Next
it was some great work on the left side by Alex
H, who was able to cross the ball into the middle
for Gergo, who struck the ball goalbound, only for
a Pilisszentiván player to reach out with
his hand, leading the ref to quickly point to the
penalty spot. After a short discussion it was decided
that Bernado would take the penalty. He made no
mistake, driving the ball into the goal to leave
the half-time score 3-0 to the delight of parents
and coaches.
At
the beginning of the second half a few adjustments
were made on the field, which saw Rian placed in
central defence, Ralph on the left and Jessica on
the right, and the game quickly took flight. Once
again it was Bernado at the centre of things as
he held the ball in the midfield waiting for Alex
H to break towards goal. Bernado slid the ball between
two defenders, where Alexander was able to strike
the ball cleanly behind the keeper. Shortly afterwards
it was 5-0, as Bernado decided to help Soma score
his first goal of the match. With his keen passing
abilities, Bernardo was able to slot the ball behind
the defence to Soma who took the ball 15 yards on
a clear break towards goal, whereupon he calmly
stroked the ball home.
With
the score 5-0, Kostya was brought on for Jessica
and Marcel for Benny. The two new players were quick
to get into the action, with Kostya feeding Marcel
down the middle where Marcel was able to beat two
defenders before slamming the ball into the back
of the net. Not to be out done, Soma picked up a
loose ball in the front of the Pilisszentiván
goal and slid it in for a 7-0 scoreline - AMAZING!
A
special mention should go out to Rein, Jessica and
Kostya for their outstanding play, as this was their
first competitive match.

This match would show everybody if the previous
match was luck or skill. It was quickly evident
to all watching that the B team was all about skill
and team work, with Bernardo and Benny once again
in the middle of everything that happened in the
first half, as well as Christian and Alex H. The
defence of Rein, Alex K and Ralph proved to be a
problem for the Pilisszentiván attackers
as the B team defence cleared every attack. At the
other end Soma proved to be a handful for the Pilisszentiván
defence as he drove forward at every opportunity.
As
the game settled into a defensive battle at both
ends of the field it seemed it would take something
special for either team to find a winner. The first
half ended goalless, but was not without many exciting
moments, one of which was a great save made by Glenn
half-way through.
As
the second half began it was still clearly evident
that a goal was going to be hard to come by, but
through some hard work from Marcel in the middle
Christian was able to score the only goal of the
game from a shot from the right of the goal. With
still more then 8 minutes remaining in the game,
the B team defence and Barnard held the Pilisszentiván
strikers at bay.
Another
victory and with another clean sheet. Congratulations
to all the players, especially to Glenn and Barnard.
