Roma

Simon

Straight from the kick-off both teams made it clear they would attack at every opportunity which resulted in the match being played at a fast pace, although scoring opportunities would prove few and far between.

Most of the danger for Dundee United was down the right side, where Adrian was able to beat the defender to the ball at will, usually resulting in a cross into the middle. Credit to United, as they were the most dangerous with the ball and it finally paid off when Adrian's shot from the right of the goal was saved by Thorben, but Mark got the rebound and calmly slipped the ball into the net.

Shortly after taking the lead, Sam M made the mistake of trying to dribble out from the back and lost control to Simon. Simon quickly took one step and fired the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net from 18 yards out, an unstoppable shot, tying the score 1-1.

From that point on, both Sam M and Trevor were very solid at the back for Dundee United and were able to keep the Roma attackers at bay for the rest of the half. What was to end up as the winning goal was one of the nicest goals of the day. Sam V and Sam M linked up on the left side of the field where Sam V was able to deliver an absolutely beautiful ball into the middle, where Bernardo was able to volley it first time into the top of the net.

The second half was a story of missed chances at both ends of the field. Both Bernardo and Mark missed open-goal opportunities for United which would have put the match out of reach for Roma. At the other end it was Till and Simon both hitting the posts. However, credit should be given to Thorben, who made two great saves from Simon. When the teams weren't missing chances, the defenders of both teams were there to clear the ball from danger.

With Roma coming off a disappointing loss to Dundee United, they wanted to prove to everyone that they were still the team to beat. From the very first whistle Roma were on the attack, however there was only one problem - the combination of Yelle and Koysta in defence. When they weren't there to stop the Roma attackers, the cross-bar and posts took over.

The first real scoring chance came from a through ball from Hugo which put Till one-on-one with Glenn. Glenn came quickly off his line and forced Till wide, resulting in a shot which went well wide of the net. Next it was Rein's turn, who blasted a drive from directly in front of the net, easily beating Glenn... but the post was there to keep the ball out.

Within minutes of hitting the post, Fabrizio hit a long-range effort that forced Glenn into making a very good save. Directly from the save Glenn slipped the ball out to Yelle, who quickly drove the ball forward to Lars, who took on the Roma defenders only to see his shot stopped by Thorben in the Roma goal. Next it was Till's turn to try and put Roma ahead, a great pass from Rein putting Till through on the right hand side where he had the keeper at his mercy, but his low drive hit the post.

While Roma was clearly becoming more frustrated with every moment, Hamburg took their one clear chance of the first half, with Ben putting Lars through on goal against Thorben. Lars ever so coolly faked right, then went left to slide the ball into the open net. Even though it was clear to everyone that Roma should have been ahead at half-time, it just wasn't meant to be.

It was clear that Roma needed something special to get back into the match. The magic returned soon after the restart with a superb pass by Fabrizio, which found its way through three Hamburg defenders to an unmarked Rein, who only had to stick his foot out to knock it into the net to tie the score at 1-1.

Roma seemed determined to put the game away, however their luck would leave them once again, this time with Simone hitting the bar and then shortly after putting the ball over. Next it was Hamburg's turn to show that they too could hit the woodwork. Ben was put through by Soma directly in front of the net and slammed the ball directly at the bar. As the ball came down Rein was there to clear the ball from dropping into the net.

With Hamburg starting to feel they could steal a win they attacked down the middle, where a scramble in front of the Roma net resulted in the ball coming loose to Ivan, who quickly drove the ball into the top corner to give Hamburg the lead again.

With a win in their grasp, however, Hamburg fell asleep at the back and Till was able to work his way around half the Hamburg team before driving the ball directly at Glenn, who made a brave save only to see the rebound fall to Rein. He once again only had to stick his foot out to put the ball into the net and tie the score.

That was not the end, though. With only moments left in the match a mistake in the Roma defence allowed Lars to go unmarked one-on-one with Thorben and once again the crafty Lars slotted the ball into the net, giving Hamburg an undeserved 3-2 victory.

This game was a clear example of how hardwork and skill sometimes does not always result in a win. Even though Roma clearly demonstrated their superior work rate and skill, it just wasn't meant to be their day. Two losses on the day would see Roma drop into second spot in the table.

This match would see a reversal in luck for the Hamburg team from their previous match with Roma. The game was played at the quickest pace of the day, keeping the official (Moses) running up and down the pitch. This was a match in which Adrian was the provider of two great crosses resulting in goals.

Within three minutes of the start, Adrian carried the ball down the right side and provided a cross into the middle which was met by Alex Hurley. Glenn was there to make the first save, but he could do nothing as Mark collected the rebound and drove it in to give Dundee United the lead. Soon after the goal Hamburg went on the offensive with Lars and Ben connecting on a lovely 1-2 in front of the net, only to see Barnard make a great save from Ben.

Where the luck was with Hamburg in their match against Roma it certainly wasn't with them in this match, as they couldn't find a way to put the ball past Barnard. Both Ben and Alex Hingl had great scoring opportunities, but Barnard was there to make the save and when Barnard wasn't there the post was there to assist him, as was the case when Alex Hingl beat the last defender, only to see his shot hit the outside of the post and go out for a goal kick.

Moments before half time, Adrian was once again given the chance to drive the ball into the middle to the awaiting Alex Hurley, who firmly met the ball with his head, placing it into the net beyond the out-stretched Glenn. Dundee United two up at half-time.

From the restart Hamburg once again went on the offensive, with Yelle crossing the ball into the middle only to have Mark miskick the clearance and drive the ball against his own goalpost. Sam V took control of the ball on the left side of the field and floated a cross into the middle, only to have David clear it off the line with a strong header.

As Hamburg started to run out of steam, Sam V was given a second chance to drive the ball towards goal. However, this time it was Glenn who stood tall and made not only the first save, but was able to collect the rebound that was clearly going in the goal from a shot by Bernardo. With less then two minutes remaining Dundee United put the game away with yet another headed goal, this one coming off the head of Mark, who was able to connect with a cross from Alex Hurley.
